Green is a color that contains double meanings in traditional Chinese culture.Why chivalry and ferocity are both associated with green can be traced back from the very early stages as well as the later experience of mankind.Green shade offered protection not only for human beings but also for their predators and fierce carnivores.Thus those who rob the rich and help the poor are named"Heroes from the green forest",but the term green forest also referrs to the heinous "mountain kings"who committ robbery and endanger civilians.Green also symbolize lower classes.Servants in Han Dynasty wore green conical caps and all protistutes had to wear green hoods after Yuan Dynasty as a token of their low social status.The shame that a betraying wife brings upon her husband is called a"green cap"for her husband.In western countries green is the color of life,however,largely because the color of verdant grass and woods.As Arnheim says"Green is a color that calls natural,refreshing ideas on our minds".It symbolzes youth and vitality in the following phrases,(1）in the green wood（2）in he green （3）a green old age,and freshness in others like （1）green recollection（2）keep the memorygreen（3）a green wound.However it refers to a naive,unexperienced person as （1）a green hand（2）as green as grass（3）a green horn,and sometimes as a pronoun of jealousy as（1） thegreen-eyed monster（2）green with envy（3）a green eye
